Gold Coast (OOL) airport is at the south end; tram+bus or a short transfer reaches the strip. Brisbane airport is ~1 hr north too.

Health: Tap water is excellent everywhere. Superb healthcare; insure as it's costly for visitors.

Trade Surfers for Burleigh — Surfers Paradise is the neon high-rise circus, but the locals' Gold Coast is at Burleigh Heads — a gorgeous point break, a headland walk through rainforest, and cafés without the crowds. The tram links the whole strip cheaply, and the Springbrook waterfalls behind town are a free rainforest escape.
