Safety: Finland is routinely ranked the world's happiest and among its safest — Helsinki's biggest danger is buying more Marimekko than your luggage allows. Winter: ice grips for shoes, and never walk on sea ice without locals doing it first.

Plant-based: Helsinki's lounas buffets almost always include a vegan pot; oat everything, everywhere.

Gluten-free: Rye is the national grain — GF options are labeled ('gluteeniton') and common; Karelian pasties come GF in bigger shops.
